Governor Larry Hogan announced Monday, March 21 that the Maryland Department of Health donated 50 portable ventilators to front line hospitals in Ukraine.
Governor Hogan said these ventilators will help treat children and adults who have been injured during the Russian invasion.
“The State of Maryland continues to stand in solidarity with President Zelensky and the people of Ukraine,” Governor Hogan said. “We are proud to make this donation to help save lives and aid the Ukrainians in the fight against Russian aggression.”
The Astral ventilators were donated to the Paul Chester Children’s Hope Foundation (PCCHF). The organization provides life-saving medical equipment and assistance to developing countries who are without these essential services.
"These ventilators will save lives during and after this terrible, senseless crisis," said PCCHF Co-founder Dr. Willian Chester. “I am beyond grateful for Governor Hogan, Secretary Schrader, Delegate Kipke, and the Maryland Department of General Services for their generosity and kindness."
The Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) also helped with the logistics of the donation.
“These ventilators will help provide the additional support needed for the citizens of Ukraine,” DGS Secretary Ellington E. Churchill, Jr. said. “General Services continues to do everything in our power to help aid the nation of Ukraine during their time of need.”
The ventilators were scheduled to leave later in the day Thursday and should arrive in Ukraine later this week.
